Reimagining Industry

re-GENERATOR merges culture, community and design

The Center for Urban Culture re-GENERATOR was developed on the site of the former Regeneracija factory in Zabok as part of a broader transformation of the industrial zone into a new urban center.
Bringing together a diverse range of programs – from a concert hall and rehearsal spaces to exhibition areas, an art cinema, learning and workspaces, and accommodation for artists – re-GENERATOR comprises one reconstructed and two newly built spatial-functional units.

Designed by Mikelić Vreš Arhitekti (MVA), the interiors are defined by a thoughtfully composed selection of elements that echo and elevate the project’s architectural identity. A distinctive feature is the prominent use of Grupa’s lighting designs, which lend the spaces a sense of warmth, refinement, and flexibility. The modular ILI ILI pendants are suspended with subtle precision, providing both ambient light and sculptural impact, while Arigato lamps softly illuminate the dormitory rooms, adding comfort and understated elegance.

Dynamic, layered, and distinctive, re-GENERATOR stands as a new spatial landmark in the city’s silhouette and a bearer of a unique identity – at once old and new, rooted in Zabok’s industrial heritage.

The project was nominated for the 2025 Piranesi Prize, a prestigious regional architecture award, as one of Croatia’s five entries.
